As the year creeps by, one of McLaren Vale’s biggest and most iconic events is just around the corner.

Returning for its thirteenth year, the McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic car parade will return to Main Street on Sunday, April 22 at 11am.

Since the event’s inception in 2006 it has grown from having nearly no budget, 60 cars and very few spectators, to now attracting 20,000 people in 2017 and a massive number of vehicles including vintage aircraft.

McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic Chairman Trevor Sharp said every year the event continued to grow and all that turn out to the event had a good time.

“I’m a bit of a petrol head myself, having just restored a 1971 MGB GT,” he said.

“I’m always amazed to see what everyone else has been up to during the year, restoring cars to a condition better than when they were new,” he said.

This year’s event will feature a range of food, live music and wine for all to enjoy.

Wineries involved with this year’s event include Molly Dooker, Serafino, Tintara, Fox Creek Wines, Angove, Paxton, Woodstock, Doc Adams and Hastwell & Lightfoot.

As usual, a pre-event dinner will be held the Saturday night prior to the event.

At $100 a head, the event includes a three course meal, as well as beer, wine, soft drink and the opportunity to participate in raffles and a silent auction.

On top of this, racing royalty Colin Bond, who was inducted into the V8 Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Confederation of Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2016, will also be in attendance.

Mr Bond is potentially the only man who will ever take out both an Australian Rally Championship and Bathurst 500, so you may want to get in quickly for your tickets as he is certain to rev the event up.

Part of the funds raised from the evening will go towards supporting the McLaren Vale Hospital and the McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat Country Fire Service (CFS).
