Antiques Roadshow expert to lecture in Victor Harbor

Fans of the popular TV program Antiques Roadshow will be familiar with one of its well-known experts, Dr Paul Atterbury.

He’s often remembered for his distinctive striped blazer as well as for his wide-ranging knowledge and skills.

An art historian, curator, tour guide and broadcaster, with a fascination for social history, Paul will return to the Fleurieu Peninsula this month with a new lecture looking at the history of the Canal Age in Britain.

This is the only lecture he will give in SA during his current Australian tour.

This is the only lecture he will give in SA during his current Australian tour.

The lecture will explore the impact of Britain’s canals on the key artists, architects, engineers, designers and manufacturers during Britain’s Industrial Revolution.

Paul’s interest in canals led him to owning his own canal boat for some time.

He will recall some anecdotes about his own experiences in his ‘narrow boat’ moving through the myriad of canal systems and locks that are so popular now with tourists.

When: Monday March 19. Registration and Morning Tea from 9.45am; lecture commences at 10.30am.

Where: Gospel Centre, 2 George Main Road, Victor Harbor.

Cost: $25.
