Bartel Boulevard will come alive this weekend for the 24th annual Victor Harbor Triathlon Fun Run and Walk.

Race director Sid James said there was already more than 700 entries and more were expected to register on the day.

Kicking off at 8:30am, the day will start with a fun triathlon, followed by a five kilometre fun run for those who want to participate without competing in the top race.

The main event will start at 9:30 for the standard distance triathlon in both the male and female categories.

A 10 kilometre fun run and sprint distance triathlon will follow, and a mini triathlon will close the day for kids aged between three and 19.

After competing in last year’s race with champion triathlete Kevin Fergusson, Sid was prepared to race again.

However, after Kevin was involved in an accident while riding his bike last month, the pair will hold off from competing until later this year.

“Kevin was in hospital for four days so we won’t be racing.. I’m a bit disappointed but it gives me a chance to really focus on the whole event,” Sid said.

“We won’t give up though and we hope to race in the Busselton Iron Man later this year.”
