The Victor Harbor Recreation Centre has been progressively upgraded since 2015, and the City of Victor Harbor wants to see it utilised more by the community.
Located opposite the Civic Centre on George Main Road, the recreation centre was originally built in 1985 and extended in 1999.
Over the last two years, the council has been undertaking improvements to ensure it is kept at a high standard. These works include the building being repainted, new windows installed, carpet and lino replaced, energy-saving lighting fitted, new glass backboards installed in the main stadium, canteen and kiosk upgraded, roof replaced, and many other smaller improvements.
Mayor Graham Philp said the centre was an important community asset which he’d like to see used more.
“Over the past few years, council has undertaken required maintenance to ensure the facility remains a quality community recreation venue,” Mr Philp said.
“Not only is the facility used for a wide variety of sporting activities, it provides our community with a multi-functional space that can be used for other events including meetings, conferences, concerts or wedding receptions.”
Along with the two courts on which numerous sports are played, there are two meeting spaces and a fully-fitted kitchen available.
The meeting rooms can be hired out and the stadiums are available for use most Friday nights and weekends.
“The centre has recently commenced hosting the Victor Harbor Brazilian Jui Jitzu club on Monday and Thursday nights, as well as hip hop dance classes on Friday nights,” Mr Philp said.
I am sure there are community members who have an idea for a community activity, and just need a space to run it.Mayor Graham Philp
