Following investigations by Crime Scene Investigators, a fire at Kuitpo Forest early on Sunday morning has been deemed not suspicious.

Eight Country Fire Service (CFS) crews and police attended the fire at the forest just off Dashwood Gully Road, about two kilometres south-east of Kangarilla, just after midnight on Sunday, March 11.

The fire was brought under control just after 2am with about 500 square metres of scrub and plantation pines destroyed.

CFS remains on the scene to mop up and monitor the area in case of any flare-ups.

A SAPOL spokeswoman said CSI deemed the fire not suspicious after attending the fireground on Sunday.

Early investigations indicate it may have been a campfire which got out of control.

Anyone who sees suspicious behaviour should call Police Assistance on 131 444.
