Crowds gathered on Warland Reserve, Victor Harbor to enjoy the annual Encounter Celebration Festival on Sunday, April 8.
The celebration marks the meeting of British Captain Matthew Flinders and French Captain Nicolas Baudin off south coast shores on April 8, 1802.
An impressive contingent of British and French classic cars were a feature of the morning's entertainment.
A group from the Auto Francaise Motor Vehicles Club travelled from Adelaide to join the British classic cars organised by the Victor Harbor Historic Motor Vehicles Club. The Granite Island train carriage was exhibited by a team from the Southern Fleurieu Historical Museum at Port Elliot.
The formal entertainment program began at 12noon with 'Welcome to Country' followed by a performance by indigenous singer Leonie McCallum. Musicians and entertainers Maggie O'Moore, Georgia Darcey and Dean Bird as well as the Victor Harbor Town Band entertained the large gathering of locals and visitors.
The official flag raising ceremony at 4pm included a reading from the log of Captain Matthew Flinders by Lee Blair-Jenke who was dressed as the British captain. Joe Van Dalen in a French captain's costume read from Nicolas Baudin's log in both French and English.
