Ben Sweetman has represented the state in CrossFit and this month won the State Throwdown competition in Adelaide.

Ben is currently a trainer at CrossFit Victor Harbor, the business owned and operated by Daniel and Joanne Todd at Commerce Crescent at Lincoln Park.

“It is the best way to get fit,” Ben said.

CrossFit is in itself a sport with a high intensity workout and according to Joanne Todd, it can also provide Olympic weight lifting training as well.

“We are very proud of what Ben has achieved, as he has been doing CrossFit for about five years. We run group classes, which go for 60 minutes and cater for the beginners to elite athletes, who have a high degree of fitness,” Joanne said.

“Anyone can do it.”

Currently at CrossFit Victor Harbor there are 36 members and it is a community and fun based way to get fit.

“There is a lot of support and encouragement in the sessions and we always have a trainer present to assist with the workout,” Joanne said.

“All the workouts are pre-programmed, so everything is organised and the workout can be tailored for your specific need.”

At CrossFit Victor Harbor and like all gyms on the Fleurieu Peninsula, footballers and netballers attend to get that top up in fitness, which may be missing on the training track.

“We have people from all sports come to our workouts to get an edge in their sport and Ben has competed at Masters level and always strives to achieve at national level,” she said.
