Country Arts SA and State Theatre Company South Australia present Terrestrial, a mysterious love letter to the abandoned communities of regional South Australia.
Liddy, an alien-obsessed teenager, and her mum arrive in a remote SA town seeking escape. What they find is a community collapsing in on itself due to an impending mine closure.
Liddy swiftly connects with Badar, a witty, cynical 15-year-old just like her. An outsider just like her. A lover of sci-fi, just like her.
But when Badar disappears, Liddy must search back through her recent past to find the point where reality and fantasy divide.
Jill Blewett Playwright Award winner Fleur Kilpatrick makes her State Theatre Company debut with this mysterious, enticing story.
“Fleur Kilpatrick has created a tender yet twisting tale of social dislocation in regional Australia. It’s a beautiful new work that announces another powerful voice to the State Theatre Company stage,” State Theatre Company artistic director Geordie Brookman said.
Directed by the perceptive Nescha Jelk (Gorgon, Othello) Terrestrial promises to both touch the heart and engage the mind.
Along with other regional dates, Terrestrial will screen at Hopgood Theatre, Noarlunga on May 9 from 1pm and Centenary Hall, Goolwa on May 11 from 1pm.
Beyond the Barricade – win tickets!
The UK’s critically-acclaimed show Beyond the Barricade, a glittering concert of musical showstoppers, will make its debut in Australia this year, including a show at Hopgood Theatre in Noarlunga on June 21.
Starring past principal performers from Les Misérables in the West End and on UK tour, the two-hour show features favourite songs from the world’s greatest musicals including Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Les Misérables.
The former cast members include Andy Reiss, David Fawcett, Katie Leeming, and Poppy Tierney, who are accompanied by an ensemble of musicians.
“Our aim was, and continues to be, to deliver these much-loved songs from the top musicals in a way that captures the feel of the original orchestrations, so the audience feels they are listening to the original performance,” co-founder Andy Reiss said.
To win one of three double passes to the Noarlunga show, email your name, town of residence and daytime phone number to firstname.lastname@example.org before 5pm Sunday, May 13.
