With Proctor a late withdrawal young Ruckman Sam Lawrie got his first A Grade match and started with a nice tap to Marr onto Ellis. Frazer Haywood matched up well on Mutton but the smaller brigade of McLaren got going with Bradwell, Lachie Mathews twice and Groves getting the first four goals on the board. Griffen, Wood and Walling tried to get Goolwa going but Smith Kahl and Hansen at half back with some tough work by Green kept McLaren pushing forward.

Goolwa tried hard with tackle after tackle until Marr got one to Bollenhagen to get the fifth. Goolwa lifted in the last few minutes through Griffen and  Cuthbert but Zohar and White playing well down deep cut them off - 5.3 to 0.0 quarter time.

McLaren got the second half going with ground level goals to Bollenhagen and Green. Griffen battled well for Goolwa, who finally got one to Steven McCardle to put the Magpies on the board. Ellis seemed to be having his best game for the season. At three quarter time, score was 19.12 to 1.1.

In the last, poor skills from Goolwa created many turnovers and McLaren took the opportunity to make lots of forward changes with 10 different goal kickers for the quarter: Marr, Lawrie, Watchman, Ellis two each and even defenders Goodieson, Zohar S. Kahl, Smith got in the act. McLaren ran away with 15 goals in the last.
