The mighty have fallen, as the McLaren bubble burst on the weekend. McLaren suffered its first loss for the season against Willunga and proved the Demons is a team to beat. It also proved that depth is so important at every club and McLaren suffered its loss with some key injuries.
In other games Victor Harbor won convincingly over Yankalilla, Encounter Bay did the same to an injury riddled Myponga/Sellicks, Strathalbyn grabbed a much needed win over Goolwa/Port Elliot and Langhorne Creek defeated Mount Compass by 34 points.
Round eight will be a blockbuster with some tremendous games on the card. Victor Harbor clash with Willunga the form team in the competition.
The Roos are plodding along nicely under Alleway and rate themselves a genuine finals chance in 2018. To prove they are a team to be reckoned with, they need to knock off a top side and this week will be a great test.
Victor’s McKay in ruck will need to nullify the strength of Bass for the Demons to stop the ball leaking to the likes of Beath and Boyd. Ficken, Nelson and Alexopoulos are playing well for Willunga. Victor Have a great nucleus of their own of ball winners. Weetra, Connors, Borrillo and N Dowling find their own footy.
Kiss Of Death – Victor Harbor by 1 point.
McLaren host Encounter Bay and the Bays have an even spread of contributors. You have to like the work rate of Nick Marshall and the Tonkin brothers and the McLaren boys will need Ellis back in the engine room and Mutton up front if they are to get up.
Kiss Of Death – Encounter Bay by 7 points.
Mount Compass will seek redemption against Strathalbyn and it will be interesting who has the task of minding Marc Elliott. Foot soldiers Tom Vitkunas, Pittaway and McKenzie are doing the heavy lifting and it is time for the stars to pull their weight for the Dogs.
Kiss Of Death – Mount Compass by 26 points.
Langhorne Creek travel to Goolwa and the Magpies need to play four quarters. Gransden, J Fry, J Casey and Cinc are going well for the Pies, but will not be enough to contain Sellar, Earl, M Cleggett and M Dominish.
Kiss Of Death – Langhorne Creek by 50 points.
Myponga/Sellicks play Yankalilla and this game will be tight. Allen, Flintham, O’Hanlon and Bartetzko should be able to lead the Mudlarks to an important win, but Laba, Kelly, J Fitzgerald, Wilson and Fisher may have other ideas.
Kiss Of Death – Myponga/Sellicks by 14 points.
