McLaren started well with Lachie Mathews, Ellis and Gill in the midfield getting early touches and goals on the run to Jimmy Mathews followed by Vandeleur.

Yankalilla with Laba, Fitzgerald, and Sidebottom lifting the intensity, Kelly causing McLaren problems up forward, got the first, followed by another from Fitzgerald.

Kay on Hansen and Smith on Sidebottom were great tussles. Laba resting up forward got the third for Yankalilla and when Mutton kicked his first, it was game on. McLaren up by three points.

The second quarter had Fisher snap cleanly, but then it was all McLaren. Lawrie on top in the ruck and goals flooded, as Mutton marked everything. Yank lost Kelly and McLaren kicked 12 goals for the quarter.

Smith, White Goodieson and Zohar in defence for McLaren set up many forward movements. Yankalilla had no answer for Mutton, who was on his third opponent, kicked another three goals for the term.

In the last quarter Yankalilla to their credit did not give upm but McLaren had their tails up and a key forward hungry for goals. The Tigers scored two for the term from Bartlett and Kay, who showed plenty of spirit.

However, it was Mutton’s day as he slotted his 13th goal for a best on ground performance. McLaren won the game 28-19 to Yankalilla 7-6.
