On Friday June 29, Goolwa radio personality David Fleming presented his two thousandth music show on Alex-FM, Goolwa’s community radio station.
This isn’t David’s final show – he continues to be heard in the Tuesday and Friday breakfast slots.
David has been on air with Alex-FM from the very start fourteen years ago and has enjoyed presenting all of his shows as much as his listeners have enjoyed hearing them.
Alex-FM’s history goes back to November 2001 when eight local Goolwa residents got together to look at what would be necessary to establish a local community radio station in Goolwa.
Over the next few years this led to a temporary Radio Broadcasting license being issued in 2004.
David Fleming was there from the beginning, not only as a broadcaster but also at the management level.
David’s valuable contributions
Management Committee member Michael Koch said: “David was instrumental in introducing a change of management at the station.
“He revitalized the programmes, encouraged presenter development and professionalism, technical innovation and invested a great deal of time, effort and money into getting Alex-FM to where it is today.”
It is clear that without the exceptional service and involvement that David has given over the years Alex-FM as it now is would simply not exist.
“His efforts, with others, in the early years in particular created a station of diversity, talent and community value,” Michael said.
He has always sought to improve and innovate in the best interests of the station and its members”.
Alex-FM is run by a team of over 70 volunteers. The station has no paid staff.
Alex-FM strongly believes in social inclusion and providing a voice for the community.
The station is on air 24 hours every day on 96.3 FM plus live streaming. Details are on the website www.radiogoolwa-alexfm.com.au
