Great Southern football had some big rounds on the weekend

SWOOPING: There is no better sight in football than Victor Harbor's Les Weetra in full fight gaining possession of the football in traffic and setting up opportunities for team mates. Weetra was a key player in Victor's one point win over the Bays.

Victor Harbor are still alive after a brilliant one point win over Encounter Bay on Saturday. It was the match of the season with the Roos stealing the win in the dying seconds and in turn, keeping their finals hopes alive.

In the other games McLaren showed some fight to stop the Mudlarks by 22 points and Langhorne Creek, Willunga and Mount Compass had little problems disposing of Strathalbyn, Goolwa and Yankalilla.

The match of the round for this week is between Willunga and Mount Compass and this will be interesting to see how much the Dogs want top spot and whether the Demons can lay claim as a serious premiership contender.

Billy Cook, Beath, Boyd, Martin and Alexopoulos are firing for the Dees, but have they the arsenal to stop Pinyon, Veide and new boy in town Ellis?  Don’t think so. Kiss Of Death –  Compass by 22 points.

Langhorne Creek are top of the ladder and meet Myponga/Sellicks, who are still in the hunt for a finals berth. The Hawks with Sellar, Earl, Jake Dominish, Derham and Perrey in top touch are not ready to relinquish top position. The Mudlarks have both Merrett boys on the paddock now and Flintham is in great touch.

Kiss Of Death – Langhorne Creek by 13 points.

McLaren take on Strathalbyn and the Roosters should not be taken lightly. What you have to like about the Roosters is the form of youngsters Clamp, Hirschausen and Wright and Adam Clark is a gun player on his day. Congratulations to Steve Kahl on his 300th game for McLaren and the club will raise awareness for prostate and breast cancer this round. Well done and Kiss Of Death – McLaren by 19 points.

Victor Harbor with Connors, Proud, Weetra, Leech, Bartram and the Basham boys will be too strong for the Magpies. Harper, Casey, and the Fry boys will have a go. Kiss Of Death – Victor Harbor by 37 points.

Encounter Bay will bounce back this week against Yankalilla. Barnes for the Bays was back to his best last round and Sweetman is a find for the club. The Tigers rely heavily on the input of Laba, Shute, Kay, Billy Hogben, Wilson and Crawford.

Kiss Of Death – Encounter Bay by 58 points.
