Returning for its second year, the Aldinga Sunflower Spiral planting day will see the local community invited to help create the giant spiral.

At 130m long and 30m wide the spiral is really a sight to behold.

Between 9am and 12pm on Saturday, September 15, all are invited to attend the garden session which will begin the process of the Sunflower Spiral.

The free event is a partnership between council, business and community with the key stakeholders being council, Aldinga Central Shopping Centre, Bunnings Seaford, Peats Soil, Aldinga Community Centre Community Garden volunteers and local schools and child care centres.

During the event there will also be the opportunity for kids to get involved with crafts, stories, get their own sunflower growing kits to take home and take part in a sunflower growing competition.

City of Onkaparinga Placemaking Officer Belinda Marsh said it was something the community could take part in and was simple, cheap and able brighten peoples day

This event is part of the Sustainable Aldinga program, which features workshops on sustainability in the community.

As part of the event, the Aldinga Library will host a free presentation by ABC Gardening Australia presenter Sophie Thompson.

Bookings for the Sophie Thompson presentation are essential.
