Get your boat or jet ski licence before summer

A chance to get your boat or jet ski licence in time for the warmer months is coming up next month, as a fundraiser for Victor Harbor R-7 School's chaplaincy program.

The Marine Licence Exam Night costs $45 for people to sit the test at the Victor Harbor R-7 School on Wednesday, September 20.

It is an opportunity to sit the exam after hours, as it starts at 6.30pm.

The SA Recreational Boating Safety Handbook should be studied before arrival at the exam.

The night includes a power point presentation by the local Marine Safety Office which is about 90 minutes long, before sitting the exam which is then marked.

Anyone who passes is then accredited for their licence, either by visiting Service SA with identification or by posting certified copies of ID up to 100 points and a cheque for $41. 100 points of ID can be copied and certified on the night by a JP.

The costs are:

- $45 for an Adult Licence, for those aged over 16

- $15 for a Junior/Special permit, for those aged 12-15 (must provide a boat and do a practical exam within six months)

- $10 for a Refresher, for those already licensed but would like to watch the presentation

Participants must bring valid photo ID.

To book your place, call Meredith at Fleurieu Crash Repairs on 8552 4833 or Deb on 0418 856 265.

The event is held about five times a year and is presented as a community service, with the proceeds going to the Victor Harbor R-7 School’s chaplaincy program and chaplain Maureen Moores.

The program is designed to cater for the needs of disengaged school students.
