Eight unsung footy heroes throughout South Australia have been named as finalists in the 2018 SANFL Statewide Super Volunteer of the Year Award.

The finalists were each nominated by their clubs for their outstanding contribution to community football.

One of the finalists is the Strathalbyn Football Club’s Darcy Springhall, who has served the club for 20 years, as a committee member, runner, time keeper, umpire and equipment co-ordinator.

Darcy introduced women’s football to the club, with the team going on to win back to back premierships.

Darcy provides players with additional coaching in the off season to further develop their skills and coached successfully at junior club level and for the Great Southern under 15 association boys team.

The eight finalists will attend the Magarey Medal and Hall of Fame Presentation Dinner at Adelaide Oval on September 5, with the winner announced on the night.
