The story of a struggling small town footy team that recruits refugees to survive will come to the screens of Victa Cinema next week.

Damian Callinan stars in The Merger, which tells the tale of former football star Troy Carrington who comes back to coach footy and enlists the help of refugees to keep the team going.

The timely story has a simple message of empathy, respect, and spirit of a fair-go, and “places the larger global tragedy into the smaller context of the changing face of Australian rural life”.

The film will be showing at Victa Cinema from September 7.

COMPETITION: To win one of five double passes to see the film, email your name, town of residence and daytime phone number to dani.brown@fairfaxmedia.com.au before 12pm on Monday, September 3.
