Under the guidance of specialist coaches Dean Nyberg and Ryan Byrne from Southern Tigers, the Encounter Lutheran College basketball teams had amazing success last month. The Open Boys won the State School Boys (pool B) Championship at Wayville defeating Marryatville High School in the grand final.

The Open Girls lost in the semi-finals to Moonta, but showed some fantastic development especially as four of the players are only in Year 9. The Year 8/9 Boys, Year 8/9 Girls and Year 10 Boys were all undefeated at the SSSA Knockout competition at Morphett Vale Stadium and will now progress to the State Finals in November.

The basketball teams (three teams, under 20 boys, under 17 boys, under 17 girls) will head to Melbourne in December to compete in the National School Boys and Girls Basketball Championship.

Specialist coach Dean Nyberg is also a premier league men’s champion and head coach for 2018.
