Assisted by Tennis SA and club coach Sam Tozer and using modified green dot (lower pressure) tennis balls, the students learnt some of the basic skills of tennis, played tennis games to enhance those skills and had a lot of fun on the day.

VHTC Junior coordinator Maryka Smit said the purpose of the day was introduce children to the fun and enjoyment of tennis. “It was an opportunity to get outside and move around and demonstrate how tennis can be a fun activity,” Maryka said.

“The low pressure tennis balls and modified smaller court encouraged longer rallies and the kids just loved the fact that they could rally for so long. The kids loved the activities that Sam Tozer and the guys from Tennis SA put on. It was such a great way for these primary school students to be introduced to tennis.”

All the kids received participation certificates and a meal voucher for their efforts. Victor Harbor Tennis Club is a family tennis club that caters for junior players of all standards with tennis coaching on Mondays during terms 4 and 1 of the school year. Juniors and senior players play Saturday afternoon competition and  Thursday night social from the weekend after the long weekend in October.

Club president Chris Scheid said the upcoming Victor Harbor Tennis Club Open Day on Sunday, September 16, is a great way for new families to the region to meet and have a fun hit of tennis.

“On our Open Day, we will have prizes and giveaways for children as well as a free bbq and the opportunity to come out and have a hit of tennis for free for as long as you wish. We have plenty of Hotshots junior tennis racquets and green dot tennis balls to hit with.”

The Victor Harbor Tennis Club will hold an Open Day and AGM on Sunday, September 16 from 10am to 2pm.
