The qualifying final on Saturday at Myponga oval was a tough game of football, but it was Langhorne Creek who prevailed over McLaren after setting up the win in the first three quarters. In the first term the Hawks scored through talented youngster Jones, Kellock, Lally and Ben Warren. McLaren countered with goals from Mutton and Vandeleur.
The second quarter saw the Hawks tighten the screws with Dominish winning many possessions, along with Earl, Perrey and Kellock. The Hawks kicked 3-4 to McLaren 1-1 to lead by 26 points at half time. Lally was elusive when going forward and had three goals by the half. Langhorne Creek pulled away in third with goals to Howell, Ben Warren and Dominish. McLaren could not buy a goal and trailed by 44 points at the last change.
In the final term it was all McLaren as they whittled down the lead kicking 5-1 and holding the Hawks to just four points. Goals to Gill, Lachlan Mathews, Bradwell, Vandeleur and Mutton had McLaren get within 17 points, but that is where it ended and the Hawks were victorious.
