Celebrating milestone birthdays like 18 and 50 are often big events but celebrating the 100 year milestone is huge and that is exactly how Victor Harbor resident Lorna Till spent her birthday.

Lorna celebrated at McCracken Views with fellow residents and staff on Thursday, September 13, before joining her family for more festivity the next day.

Born on September 14, 1918, Lorna married her husband Noel at the age of 21 in 1939 and had two children, Wendy and Leslie.

Since then her family has grown to include five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, a considerably large family.

To celebrate Lorna’s milestone birthday, family members and staff organised a birthday party for her at the Southern Cross Care McCracken Views Residential Centre, complete with roses and a presentation to congratulate her.

To top it all off Lorna also received celebratory cards from both the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison and the Queen.

On achieving this milestone and how she got there, Lorna said, “Trusting my God, hard work, and the love of my family”.

Throughout her life Lorna has had a large involvement in churches and during her younger years while living in Largs Bay she was a Lieutenant in the church’s Girls Brigade group, taught Sunday school lessons, and opened her home for supplying supper for local youth groups.

She was also a volunteer at the Modbury Hospital for many years, and was passionate about giving back to the community.

The Times wishes Lorna a happy and healthy 100th birthday.
