The Victor Harbor Men’s Shed is officially opened. The Shed is located at Martha Close in Victor Harbor and gives men the opportunity to share experiences, skills, make memories and to talk.
The state of the art workshop on a piece of land gifted to the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed by the City of Victor Harbor has enabled members to work on many community projects.
Special guests at the opening, which was held on Friday, September 14, were City of Victor Harbor mayor Graham Philp, Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie, State Member for Finniss David Basham and Liberal candidate for the seat of Mayo at the next Federal election Georgina Downer.
Victor Harbor Men’s Shed members Dennis Williams and Allan Edmondson-Stott spoke at the opening, as did Mr Basham, Mr Philp and Adare Uniting Church Reverend Susan Doughty.
To make the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed a reality there was funding available through the Federal Government’s Building, Better Regions Fund of $256,000, the Adare Church committed $25,000, Victor Harbor Men’s Shed raised $70,000 and City of Victor Harbor gifted the land and gave in-kind support to the value of $20,000.
“It has been a great partnership with so many stakeholders to make this happen and this facility will enhance men’s health in the region,” chair of the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed Dennis Williams said.
