Social dancing, singing, croquet, aqua aerobics and coffee catch-ups – these are just a few events being held across the region as a part of the Flourishing on the Fleurieu Festival, from Sunday, September 23 until Saturday, September 29.
The Flourishing on the Fleurieu Festival is a biennial event that celebrates retirement and showcases how the community flourishes.
Organisers have introduced an exciting new format for the 2018 event, with 43 community groups and organisations hosting more than 100 events during the festival week.

Southern Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Positive Ageing Taskforce project officer Michelle Fuller has helped coordinate the 2018 festival. She said there had been overwhelming support from community groups and organisations wishing to participate this year.
“The Flourishing on the Fleurieu Festival is about showing our retired community members that there are so many groups and organisations out there that they can be a part of,” Ms Fuller said. “We want to encourage people to explore the possibilities available to them by trying out a new activity, reigniting an old passion or simply reading our program to find out more about what is happening in their community.
“While there are many great opportunities and community groups available, it is an unfortunate fact that many older people living in our communities still experience loneliness.
“Addressing the challenge of loneliness requires a whole-of-community approach and each of us have a role to play.”
“The Flourishing on the Fleurieu Festival is one way we can promote the great opportunities available to older people in our community, and inspire people to take the step to join new groups.”
The 2018 Flourishing on the Fleurieu Festival aligns with Active Ageing Week, with events held in Victor Harbor, Alexandrina, Yankalilla and Kangaroo Island council areas.
