The Great Southern Slammers headed to Murray Bridge on the October long weekend for the first carnival of the season. The Slammers took 12 teams with five teams making grand finals and three winning their grand finals.

The U14 Boys Div 1, U14 Boys Div 2 and U14 Girls Div 2 all won their respective grand finals with the U12 Boys Div 1 and U16 Boys Div 2 falling short by minimal margins.

Slammers president Shaun Durward said it was pleasing to have such great support.

“We had support from the player’s families and friends. It was also great to see so many teams cheering on our other teams when they weren’t playing themselves,” Shaun said.

“The Slammers program enables our local basketballers to compete against the best from the other South Australian Country basketball associations. We are building a team culture and encouraging our players to grow and develop their basketball through our High Performance Program lead by our high performance coaches David Todd, Boyd Fitton and Ryan Stewart.”
