What a beautiful day it was for the opening of the new sailing season with yachts and riverboats flying flags, pennants and all the crews enjoying the warm weather and a gentle breeze.
The members and guests were entertained by the Goolwa Town Band and welcomed by the Commodore Louise Edwards, as she introduced members to new club manager Jade Irvine and then key note speaker, Life member, champion sailor, John Blunden, who gave a rousing speech full of memories, humour and observations.
This was well received by the gathered crowd who applauded loudly on his conclusion.
Rear Commodore, Trevor Baldock gave instructions for the official sail past which was taken onboard the paddle steamer Oscar W and the judges for best dressed yacht and riverboat made notes and chose the winners.
Quite a lot of banter was heard between the boats sailing past and the officials onboard the Oscar W .
Best dressed riverboat was John Daenke and Janet Hawks onboard Corky G and best dressed yacht Darcy and Nicole Sheehan sailing Signet.
Bottles of bubbles were awarded and a large round of applause.
A Large number of members stayed on at the club for quite awhile into the night making full use of the facilities and the Thornquest Deck area.
All in all a great way to start the sailing season at the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club.
