Goolwa Bowling Club
The President’s Open Fours was has been run and won at Goolwa under beautiful blue skies with very little wind giving fantastic conditions for bowling.

The winners of the day were First Place: Barry Kaesler, Cam Harkness, John Quinn and John Wallace, from Goolwa. 62 points and 32 shots up. Second Place: Greg Bowen, Heather Maddern, Lee Robinson and Gary Wagenknecht, from Milang. 59 points and 24 shots up. Third Place: Ron Lind, Wayne Reynolds, Peter Faull and Barry Trowbridge, from Port Elliot. 59 points and 16 shots up.
Winners of the first game: Roger Hoskins, David Evans, Steve Davies, Neville Woolcock, from Goolwa. 31 points and 10 shots up.
Winners of the second game: Helen Harris, Robyn Thomson, Ray Huckel and Neil Carlile, from Goolwa. 32 points and 22 shots up.
Marie Frahn, representing Northpoint Fleurieu, presented the winners with their awards.
Twenty eight teams played on the day, representing clubs in the Great Southern Bowling Association - McLaren Vale, Yankallila, Encounter Bay, Willunga, Strathalbyn, Milang, Past Presidents, Port Elliot, Blackwood, Myponga, Victor Harbor and Goolwa.
Victor Harbor Bowling Club
Congratulations to Bronwen Mullen and Sandy Nash for qualifying in Region 7 for the State Pairs. Champion’s week will be held at Murray Bridge on December 13-16. Good bowling!
The team of ‘Crikey Mate’ consisting of Rodney Rowe, Pauline East, Jenny Todd and Pam McDonald were the winners at Night Owls last week. Coming in second was ‘Shafted’ followed by ‘Fe’s Fab Four’.
Thursday Ladies’ Pennant resulted in a good 10 point win to Div 1, with Shirley Koch and Sue Wilkins recording excellent wins. Div 2 played Willunga home with only Helen Anderson’s rink gaining 2 points. Div 3 had a win due to an excellent performance from Reata Winn-Tapscott’s rink. Both Div 1 and Div 2 are in second spot on the Premiership table.
The Bridgestone Super Triples resulted in a win to Tony Forshaw, Ernie Elf and Nevil Ritchie, with Nik Pippos, Max Davies and Eric Secomb surprising the opposition and coming in second. Third place went to Ray Watson, Ron Ritter and Marcus Brownrigg with WOL going to Peter O’Sullivan, Bill Nash and Peter Redden.
Saturday Pennant saw mixed results for Victor ‘Sea Eagles’. Div 1 Blue travelled to McLaren Vale and found the home team too strong despite a draw to John Brown and a close loss to Ian Fuller. Div 1 White played Goolwa White away and recorded a great 12 point win with all rinks up. Perhaps the pre-game chocolate donuts helped some of the team, while it was good to see Kevin East’s rink come through strongly. Div 2 were at home to EB Gold and the only point was scored with a draw to David Ling’s rink. Div 3 played Goolwa Black at home and secured 9 points with a narrow 2 shot win due to a strong showing from Gary Hancock’s rink and a draw to Royce Munn. Div 5 were away to Milang and suffered a narrow 2 shot loss despite wins to Helen Anderson and Leith Davies.
A very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all social bowlers with Ian Morris, Sandra Bowman and Bob Burley winning the day, followed by the team of Danny Wreford, Kay Parkyn and Meredith Reid. Port Elliot Bowling Club
All Thursday Pennant Divisions played away to Goolwa. Div 1 played a competitive game and with one team finished (H. Edwards 18-24), onlookers turned to the closing ends of the other two teams. Watching with baited breath, conscious that the overall game depended on the final bowls.
Libby Henschke’s team finished 20-13 and focus turned to Anthea Faull’s team. With one bowl to play and the score 19-19, the team, watching scoreboards, calculated PEBC was +1 shot. Assured of the maths, Anthea declared the head and PEBC won the game by 1 shot. Goolwa 56 – PEBC 57, a win +9 points.
Div 2 didn’t fare so well. Two teams began well, but lost momentum midstream (D. Price 22-12, L.Trenerry 22-13). Lorraine Fox’s team maintained form and roared home 14-19. Overall Goolwa 58 - PEBC 44 and 2 points.
Div 3 was disappointed with their outcome. Lynne Wenman lost to Margaret Borlase 28-15 and Pearl York down to Betty Feist 28-9. Overall score 56-24. Club Championships: The final of Ladies Pairs was played this week. After a close game (+3 shots), Margaret Malone and Jan Lind were declared champions with Lynne Trenerry and Kaye Cammack runner up.
Weds. SuperPairs: Morning 1st game winners:J.Harrrigan/A.Desfontaines, 2nd game winners: Vic Yates/ M Gray. Overall Winners: Chris Monk/Lennie Basford and runner up: Bob Henry/Merv McArdle.
Afternoon 1st game winners were Jim Roberts/Ian McLeod 31+16, 2nd game winners Ian Herron/Ken Weeks 31 + 17. Overall winners: Ian Fuller/Tony Forshaw 6-+28. Overall runner up Ron Lind/Barry Trowbridge 61+24.
Saturday Pennants: Div 1 was defeated at Strathalbyn by 6 shots. Two wins - Chris Monk 23-22 and Phil Hollow 25-21, earned the side 4 points. Div 2 at home vs Yankalilla was defeated 48-57. Two rinks down (B.Trowbridge 11-22/R.Wattison 9-24). A win by Jim Roberts’ team earned the side 2 points.
Div 3 found it heavy going at Aldinga Bay following earlier storms. The side was defeated 63-50. Two rinks were down (P Ratclffe 26-17/H.Taylor 21-14). Ern Taylor’s team’s win 16-19 earned the side 2 points.
Div 5 Black at home vs. Strathalbyn White played well with a good outcome. All 3 rinks won (D.Price 48-10, B. Petherick 48-6, J. Cruise 27-14), 119 – 30 and 12 points added to the side’s table.
Div 5 Red away played a winning game vs Strathalbyn Red (Strath Red 44-PE 51). Two winning rinks (L. Trenerry 23-12 and B.Edwards 15-14 and a narrow loss, J. Florance 16-17, earned 8 points.

Encounter Bay Bowling Club
Night Owls on Wednesday, October 31 was the third night of competition with approximately 90 people in attendance. Twenty two teams played in three divisions with the Encounter Bay winning the rink of the week 32 plus 22.
Scotch on the Rocks lead Div 1 with 84 pts, the Lakers have 91 pts in Div 2 and the Unbiased Legends lead Div 3 on 86. Thank you to the Lakers team for doing kitchen duty and next week Merv’s Angels are on kitchen duty please. Thank you also to Bar Bbq and John Chant for setting up. The BBQ will be served from 6.15pm and bowls start at 7pm sharp. Halloween was the theme for the night with Merve, Denise, Julia, Fiona and Irene all outstanding. Thank you for your effort, it was much appreciated and added to the night.
Thursday Ladies Pennants were played in windy, dusty conditions, but the ladies had a fairly successful day
Both divisions played McLaren Vale on our home green. Div 1 drew 58-58 gaining 6 points each. Yvette Wells’ team of Marlene Richman, Carole Pope and Marg Mayfield had a win and June Halstead's team drew their game
Div 2 had a win 70-54 gaining 10 points. Jean Jackson and her team of Bev Newman, Margaret Queale and Rose Aldersley won 32-12. Bay 3s Social Bowls sponsored by Australian Hearing at Victor Harbor. It was all male competitors while the Ladies were playing Pennant.
Winners with 31+6 Mike Brew, John Guy and John Kuhn, runner up with 31+5 Barry Clarke, Peter Maunder and Greg Pearson and third with 30+8 Alan Halstead, Pat O’Connell and Bruce Williams.
Saturday Open Pennants were a mixed bag. Div 1 lost to Goolwa Black by only 5 shots, 52-57 gaining 2 points on the premiership table. Leo Staak and his team of Geoff Berg, Frank Bayley and Peter Barrett won convincingly 26-11.
Div 2 Blue lost to McLaren Vale 77-40. Div 2 Gold defeated Victor Harbor 71-43, gaining 11 points. June Halstead, Ros Male, Mike Brew and Kevin Male had a very good win 29-7.
Div 3 lost to Yankalilla, but only by 4 shots, 58-62 gaining 1pt. All the matches were close with one being drawn. Div 4 defeated McLaren Vale 79-57 gaining 9 pts. Jean Jackson,Geoff Watkins, Ken Jarvis and Edna Gabel won very well on their rink, 33-8.
Saturday Summer Social Bowls was sponsored today by Swan Pharmacy Victor Harbor with 31+6 the winning score by Lou Dimitri, Brian Liddy and David Bell. Runner up Charlie Norman, Sheila Wilkinson and Takami Milne with 31+4. Third was pair of Peter Willson and Barry Zarnic with 30+7.
