South Australia's top boardriding clubs will compete on the Fleurieu Peninsula on Saturday, November 10, at the sixth event of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle. It is hoped to be held at Waitpinga

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is the country's biggest grassroots boardriders event, involving more than 60 of Australia’s best boardrider clubs. Taking place across eight state qualifying rounds, 24 qualifying clubs will come together at the National Final in Newcastle in February to be crowned Australia's best boardriding club.

SA clubs will battle it out for $1500 in prize money and a spot into the National Final. Clubs will nominate a minimum of six surfers to represent them in the one-day event. Each club will consist of 1x Under-18 Junior (male or female), 4x Opens (3 males & 1 female) and 1x Over-35 Master (male or female). Defending champions are South Coast Boardriders.

“All the clubs competing are putting a huge effort into junior development and we are starting to see the benefits. It is great to have the opportunity to have them compete against each other. The rivalry is intense,” Craig Potgieter, CEO Surfing SA said.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle will kick off on Saturday morning from approximately 9am finals concluding by midday.

“The weather looks good and with light northerly winds forecast for the morning at this stage we are hoping to run at Waits. We will confirm meeting place on Thursday and the final event venue on the morning via or social media outlets,” he said.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.

The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide.

In the past five years, Surfing Australia has invested over $750,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.
