A big-hearted 11-year-old raised over $7000 for local homeless people by shaving her head at the Hotel Victor on November 3.

The money Lauren Cousins raised will be dispersed by the Fleurieu Community Foundation. Foundation chair Brad Butler told the 100-plus people attending how the money would help many. Of the $7000 raised, $2500 was collected through donations, raffles and an auction on the day.

Lauren and her family have had tough times; she wanted to give back to the community that supported them. Her goal now is to continue the fundraising by holding events, particularly aimed at younger generations, and raising awareness of issues in our community.

Lauren thanked her mum Karly and family for their continued support, including her Nanna and her great grandparents who travelled to attend; Brad Butler for support throughout the journey; Carol Philp for emceeing the event; and people and local businesses who donated.
