The Goolwa river and wharf precinct will come to life this New Year’s Eve with a spectacular display of fireworks to bring in 2019.

Set off from the Hindmarsh Island bridge, the fireworks will commence at midnight and are best enjoyed from the water’s edge or by boat.

Access to Hindmarsh Island will be restricted by road between 11.30pm and 12.30am or until it is safe to access the bridge, with a total road closure during the fireworks display.

Boats will also be restricted from entering the 4-knot zone around the bridge between the same times.

Sponsorship and donations from the community are currently being accepted by the event committee and are what make this great event possible.

Residents can pack a picnic, float in a boat or wander the wharf and experience the best way to bring in the New Year.

A grant from Alexandrina Council will cover other expenses associated with the event.

Local cafes, restaurants and businesses will be celebrating the evening with various functions.
