In the world of opera, the High C is a soprano or tenor’s ultimate climax – the thrilling and showy peak of a bravura aria.

After seven vintages at their Kuitpo vineyard Top Note, winemaker Nick Foskett has given the ultimate anniversary gift to his opera singer wife Cate – in the form of the High C Sparkling, made from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown on their home vineyard.

Opera singer and viticulturist Cate said when they first bought the vineyard seven years ago she realised “having both Pinot and Chardonnay meant we could make a Sparkling wine”.

“Our first date consisted of a Champagne afternoon tea so I thought it would be nice if Nick gave me a Sparkling made from our own grapes by our tenth wedding anniversary,” she said.

Top Note has planned a High Tea with the High C event to help celebrate the release.

With partner venue Kuitpo Hall, guests will be treated to a three-tier afternoon tea including scones, sandwiches and sweet pastry treats, along with musical accompaniment and, of course, a glass of the High C.

“As a mezzo my own high Cs aren’t particularly presentable but never fear, I have a surprise in store and can guarantee there will be some musical High Cs during the afternoon,” Cate said.

The event is planned for Sunday, December 16.

It will run from 1pm to 4pm at the Kuitpo Hall, 772 Brookman Road, Kuitpo.

Tickets are $45 including High Tea and a free glass of the High C sparkling.
