The Metropolitan Fire Service in Victor Harbor was presented the Best Regional Station in the State on Saturday night, November 3, at McCracken.

They received the ‘2018 MFS Regional Operations Annual Audit and Proficiency Assessment - Chief Officer’s Shield’.

Victor Harbor is one of 16 regional stations across South Australia and was recognised for showing leadership and enthusiasm to every job they perform.

Member for Finniss David Basham attended the event and represented Minister for Emergency Services Corey Wingard.

“The MFS Victor Harbor are rightly incredibly proud to receive this award. The firefighters that man the station in Victor Harbor do so on a part time, and need basis and have employment outside of the MFS,” Mr Basham said.

“Their commitment and that of their families, was recognised. To be called away from family time or your job requires a dedication to be admired, even at the event, half way through their meal, they were called out to a job.”

Mr Basham also commended the businesses in the town that employ the regional firefighters for their  understanding of the important “second job” they hold.

MFS Chief Officer Michael Morgan presented the shield to Victor Harbor MFS Station Officer Mark Ewens.

“I was pleased to be there representing the Minister for Emergency Services,” Mr Basham said.
