The more you put into a project, the more you get out of it.
That motto has proved too true for Innovative Kitchens who recently claimed the 2018 HIA SA Kitchen of the Year Award for a renovation they completed on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The company’s managing director Peter Lague said the Japanese-inspired design was different to all other projects he had been involved in.
“The Wright residence provided us with the exciting opportunity to create something truly unique,” he said.

“This project involved renovating a dwelling that was previously a sales office with only a small kitchenette into an inviting home practical for living and entertaining with a full kitchen, butlers pantry and laundry.”
More than six months of in-depth pre-planning went into the winning project before the company was satisfied enough to order high-end and avant-garde materials that suited the client’s brief.
Then it was time for the physical work to commence.
Mr Lague said the Innovative Kitchens team encountered many challenges during the construction phase, but managed to come up with a solution to solve each problem as it surfaced.
“Being a renovation, this project presented some unexpected challenges, one of the main obstacles being how we would extract the vapors from the hotplate in the island bench,” he said.
“We ended up having to engineer a hanging gyprock bulkhead for an extraction unit.
“In the pantry/laundry area the challenge was creating space to fit all the clients requirements: a sink and separate trough, an integrated dishwasher and concealed washing machine as well as ample storage.
“What were once problems soon turned into design specs.”
Mr Lague said it was nice to get recognition for the company’s innovation and ability to think outside the square and that the award would not be taken for granted.
“It’s the top award you can win in the State in terms of kitchens, so we are very proud,” he said.
“We knew from the start this kitchen would be something special but didn’t realise it would help us win this.”
He thanked the client for trusting Innovative Kitchens.
