Burnside man dies after car hits tree near Strathalbyn

Major Crash Investigators are on the scene of a fatal crash near Strathalbyn, where a four-wheel-drive has hit a tree.

Emergency services were called to the crash site on Alexandrina Road, near Giles Creek Road and south of Strathalbyn, about 6.15am on Monday, December 3.

They had received a report of a Mitsubishi four-wheel-drive colliding with a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 49-year-old man from Burnside, sadly died at the scene.

The road has been closed to all traffic between Tucker Road and Bull Creek Road, and anyone using the road is asked to avoid the area if possible and use a different route get to their destination.

A SAPOL spokeswoman expected the road to be closed until about lunchtime.

Major Crash Investigators are on the scene investigating the circumstances around the crash.

The death is the 73rd on the state’s roads this year, compared to 92 for the same time last year.
