Mount Compass despite losing M. Franceschini early posted what proved to be a very competitive target. R. Garrard top scoring with 53. Yankalilla in reply lost regular wickets with the only real resistance coming from their number 4 batsman, the birthday boy L. Bartlett with an unbeaten 65 not out guided Yankalilla home with 1 over to go and 9 wickets down. S. Trapolino helping pass the score with 15 not out. This was a gutsy win from Yankalilla in what was a tough week for the boys having lost a club legend and life member Ron Fielke on Monday. RIP.
Encounter Bay V Port Elliot
On a wild and windy day at Encounter Bay Port Elliot won the toss and chose to bat first. Things didnt start well for the visitors with whitbourne being squared up and caught at gully off the bowling of Lintern. From there the bys let their opponents find some momentum dropping 4 catches in the next 5 overs to release the pressure with Dodd and Andrewartha taking the game back to the bays putting on a 61 run partnership before burns found the breakthrough trapping Dodd LBW for 35. Mgor backed up his bowling partner when he had Andrewartha LBW the very next ball to just give the home side some momentum heading into drinks with Port Elliot 3 for 70 at drinks. After drinks the home side continued to have a terrible day in the field gifting numerous runs to the visitor allowing them to get back on top in the match with Gordge and Ling frustrating the bays. It was Magor who found the wicket when he clean bowled Ling for a scratchy 27 but he had done his job for his team helping take the score past 100. From the Gordge continued to capitalize on the bays sloppiness compiling a well made 54 not out taking the visitor total to 8 for 169 at the end of their 40 overs. Gordge the best with an unbeaten 54 while Lintern the pick of the bowlers.
In reply the Encounter bay top order were asked for response after their fielding effort, unfortunately for the home side this didnt go to plan, with Martin having Kelly caught behind first ball of the second over. Riley Paull then had Magor out in the following over before Martin then had Willoughby caught brilliantly in his next to have the home side reeling at 3 for 4 after 4 overs. It was up to Hoffmann and Lintern to stop the rot and together they combined to put away the bad ball to try and wrestle back some momentum from a fired up Port Elliot side. The pair managed to make it to drinks with their side back in the game with the score at 3 for 83. On the resumption hoffmann looked to take advantage of a couple of tough chances going downwhile Lintern looked in total control. The experienced pair continued to take the game away from the visiting side with both players passing 50 and taking the score well passed 100 before Hoffmann went hard once to often off the bowling of Ling falling for 58 ending a great partnership of 130 with Lintern. Young Bailey joined Lintern and looked composed from the outset combing with his set partner and rotating the strike. The pair took the bays within boundary of victory before Martin picked up Lintern for a brilliant 86. Magor joined Bailey and the young pair calmly completed a great chase for the bays with 5 balls to spare. Lintern 86 and Hoffmann 58 the match winners for the bays while Martin bowled well to take 3 wickets for Port Elliot
