The Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development wants recreational fishers to share their thoughts as part of a new advisory council.
Nominations for Minister Tim Whetstone’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council open on Monday, December 17, and interested fishers are encouraged to sign up before Monday, February 11.
“We have a strong community of recreational fishers in South Australia and I know how passionate they are about fishing,” Mr Whetstone said.
“We consulted publicly earlier this year and received overwhelming support for how the council might be formed and operate.
“Now is your chance to get involved and nominate to be on the council to represent recreational fishers in our state.”
He said they wanted a diverse group of voices who could give feedback and advice to the government as part of the council which would be made up of eight members: one member from Recfish SA, FishinSA and the South Australian Fishing Alliance, and five people representing the South Australian recreational fishing community.
The five individuals will be voted by the public; locals are encouraged to take part in this voting process as well.
“Whether you take a boat out, fish off the beach or jetty, or throw a line in the Murray or a reservoir, I encourage every fisher to consider putting their hand up for one of the five positions available on the council,” Mr Whetstone said.
