Games this week were played in unprecedented extremes of weather. Wednesday Men’s Super Pairs was played in heat and gale force winds.  Morning overall Winners were Doug Pudney/Barry Niven; Overall runner up Merv McArdle/Bob Henry.

First Game Winner: Rob Wilkins/Darryl Hammatt; 2nd Game Winners: Jeff Owen/Ray Mole.

Afternoon overall Winners: Jim Gamble/Glenn Edwards (Two Dogs) 61+29.  Overall runner up Ken Weeks/Ian Heron (Fish Fingers) 58+15. First game winners Jim Roberts/Ian McLeod (Execs) 29+9; 2nd game winner Robin Binney/Bruce Trenorden (Pony Express) 33+16.

State Games Championships: PEBC was represented by two teams in these Games. Jim Gamble, Chris Monk/ with V.H’s Len Basford and Rob Wilkins entered the 4’s, and got down to the last 8 players, losing their quarter round to Holdfast Bay by just 1 shot (12-13).

Lyn Mole and Eileen Love played in the Pairs, defeating Mt Barker’s  R. Corner/A Forbes in the first round and going down in the last quarter final to Wallaroo Di Milner /M.Brandt 19-10.   Well done teams.

Saturday Pennants – Div 1  lost their home game vs Victor Harbor White 47-61.  Chris Monk’s team were up 23-17 earning the side 2 points.  B Trowbridge 14-19, P.Hollow 10-25.

Div 2 played an away game at Milang on greens made heavy by two very wet days. The side lost overall 62-47. Jim Roberts team scored 12-24 and 2 points for the side. Div 3’s away game vs Strathalbyn White resulted in a win for PEBC (61-64).  Helen Taylor’s team’s good win 14-30 covered losses by the other two teams earning 2 points +6 points for the overall win.  

Club Championship Finals: Women’s Singles final was a very close game, with superb bowling, played between Jan Lind and Helen Taylor. Helen won the game and Singles Champ title 25-21.

The Mixed Pairs final was also played. Sandra and Chris Monk vs Wayne Reynolds/Maryanne McGill. Observers were treated to a great afternoon viewing good bowling. Sandra and Chris won the game, and the title.

Encounter Bay Bowls

The last Bay 1000 was played on Tuesday, December 11. Winners of the losers Div 3 were On the Tee with 29 plus 7. Div 2 was Lucky Dip on 29 plus 7. Div 1 was The Trifectas on 28 plus 6.

Div 3 winners were The Supremes - Barry Clarke, Irene Davis and Merv Fisher on 61 plus 33, The winners in Div 2 were Threes a Crowd - Ken Weeks, Gary Hancock and Nigel Hewitt on 59  plus 35 and winners in Div 1 were Sister Act - Joy Mundy, Joan Mann and Helen William's on 59 plus 27. Winners of the final Ladies Triples were Lyn Mole,Dorothy Price and Meredith Koch from Pt Elliot.

Night Owls – The leaders of Div 1 are Givahoot on 202, Div 2 The Red Club Boys  on 208 and Div 3 Unbiased Legends on 207. Night Owlers were saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mark Ockenden.

Saturday Open Pennants – Div 1 defeated Willunga at home 59-54 gaining 10 pts withsome very close matches, Div 2 Gold defeated McLaren Vale 82-41 gaining 12 pts. June Halstead's and Trevor Isaacson's teams each had great wins, 31-12 and 31-16 respectively.

Correction – last week June Halstead's team won their rink gaining Div 2 Gold 2 pts – apologies!

Div 2 Blue lost to Langhorne Creek 88-41. Div 3 were defeated by Goolwa Black 98-41. Div 4 defeated Mclaren Flat 57-53. Jean Jackson and her team had a good win 29-16.

Saturday Social Bowls winners were Charlie Norman,Peter Maunder and Allan Pearce on 33 plus 16, runner  up were David Furner, Mary Jarvis and D. Innes on 30 plus 14.

Victor Bowls

Crack-the-Jack started the week in very warm conditions. Winners were Ebba Ness and Fred Kelly with the combination of Oksana and Ernie Elf a close second. The best 2-game winners were Bronwen Mullen and Bob Vowles.

Night Owls winners were ‘Shafted’ over the ‘Spares’ with the ‘Power’ coming good for third place.

At Super Triples the wind made consistent bowling almost impossible, but the team of Gary Hancock, John Koch and Wayne Lynn on 58+38 were way too good on the day. Finishing second, were Ken Weeks, Roger Wattison and Peter Manuel on 58+27 with the Bay trio of Geoff Berg, Barry Hamilton and Leigh Philp on 56+14 third. WOL were Kevin Hoppo, Craig Jacobs and Greg Middleton.

Saturday Pennants - Div 1 Blue were away to Goolwa Black and suffered an eight shot loss despite a 7 shot win to Fred Kelly’s rink. Div 1 White had a comfortable 14 shot win. The rinks of Peter O’Sullivan 25/10 and Dennis Williams 19/14 ensured the team won.

Div 2 met Yankalilla’s top side at home and went down by 9 shots with a point gained courtesy of a draw to Lyn Thatcher’s rink. Div 3 also played Yankalilla with all rinks down. However, Div 5 travelled to Strathalbyn and scored a comfortable 15 shot win due to the rinks of Leith Davies 24/13 and Ray Watson 27/16.
