Well it had to happen eventually, the yachts turned up to race and the wind didn’t. After a nervous hour a light south easterly breeze waffled in and the club had a yacht race with a shortened course. Twenty eight yachts raced in three divisions with the faster boats making the most of the light conditions to clear out from the fleets and finish before the wind started to fade.

The non spinnaker fleet saw a close race between Voodoo Child and The Shed for 1st over the line and they finished in that order with a minute between them, but on Yardstick it was Farr n Fast- Locky McLaren 1st , Oh Really – Mike O’Reilly 2nd  and Carina – Ben Morris 3rd  on personal handicap it was O Really 1st  followed by Voodoo Child and Farr n Fast.

In the spinnaker division the faster yachts made full use of the available breeze flying big spinnakers on every leg they could and in the RL 28 class it was Girlfriend in front of the other two. Well done Helen. The fastest rated yacht in the fleet won over the line and also was 1st on yardstick. Sea Bomb- Harry Cooper managed to beat Blasé – Ben Kelsey by 17 seconds with Hammer – Phillip Doley 3rd.

Once the personal handicaps had been sorted it was the same boat names but in a different order

Finally the big boat in the Riverboat class had a line honours and yardstick win. Nimue – Ray Brown won the double in a breeze that was almost made to order for the big Buzzard Bay 25. They flew a masthead spinnaker off the start and carried it on every leg of the course they could. They were 24 seconds in front of Nerana – Nigel Kies and 3rd was Bright’n – Mike Schirmer. \

There was a very close race between the 3 Restricted 21’s with each leading on different legs of the course. On personal handicap it was the same names, once again in a different order. Please check out the photo’s on Facebook, Canvas Sails
