Encounter Bay v Mount Compass

The sun was out and the wind was blowing hard at Burgess for this clash of titans. Encounter Bay winning the toss and electing to bat against a struggling, but determined Compass side.

The opening attacks for both teams worked hard to get there teams off to good starts, but the first session ended with a fairly tame scoreline of 0/27. In the second session the game started to move forward as Barrett brought himself on to try and get a break through, which he did with a ball that could only be described as the ball of the century.

The second wicket fell soon after from a Barrett ball that wasn't as good, a rank full toss outside of which was caught in the covers with one hand by Will Zimmerman. This brought Hoffmann and Lintern to the crease who where cautious early.

Barrett created a chance with Hoffmann only to have him dropped at backward square, if this was taken it would have been the forth time Barrett has claimed the big wicket of Hoffmann in the last couple of years.

The third session was all Encounter Bay as Hoffmann and Lintern moved the score along quickly and soon both batsman where dominant at the crease. Compass where desperate to break this partnership and had to resort to Num to bowl some slow somethings to the inform batsmen. Num kept them honest. By the end of the day’s play Encounter Bay scored 336 and both Hoffmann and Lintern had made 125 and 123 respectively.

Goolwa v Noarlunga

Round 11 saw Goolwa take on Noarlunga in a two day game at Goolwa. Noarlunga won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first.

Captain J Scarff and A Burgess opened the batting for the away side and they faced Goolwa's Josh Jones and Jayden Crees. It was an absorbing battle between the two in the early overs as good balls missed the bat and bad ones went to the fence.

J Scarff was the first to go pulling one to Crees for 7 and Noarlunga were 1/14 off 10. Out came young gun C Bullard and he looked solid from the start as he picked apart the bowlers and Burgess also joined the party as they looked to pile on the runs.

After getting Noarlunga into a strong position, Bullard went after one too many punishing shots for a well made 48. At the halfway point Noarlunga were cruising at 2/118 and had all the answers, but when Burgess fell shortly after drinks for another well made 61, this brought life back to the Goolwa side.

From that point on, Goolwa ripped through the Noarlunga batting order as they lost 8/38 after brilliant spells from Crees and Lawrence. J Lawrence the pick of the bowlers finishing with 6/54 and J Crees 2/43.

Goolwa batted for 10 overs and Leray and Giddings showed composure to finish on 0/20.
