A pontoon at Normanville beach has proven to be “massively more popular” than the District Council of Yankalilla could have imagined.

Council chief operating officer Andy Baker said as soon as staff had returned to the office after the installation on Friday, January 18, it was packed with people trying it.

“We were given options of size. We went for the biggest we could manage,” he said.

It is the first in the district and it sits in front of the surf life saving club.

“The reason we put it where it is, is because of the surf life saving club’s flags – we’ve put it in the middle of where they’re set up so they can manage it,” he said.

“The cafe said it’s bringing more people to the beach.”

He said signage would be put up to warn people that no diving, fishing, or mooring of boats or kayaks is allowed.
