Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie has celebrated the grand opening of her Victor Harbor Office, hosting a celebratory sausage sizzle last Friday afternoon.
The ‘satellite’ electorate office is the first for any MP in the country and provides a permanent presence on the South Coast.
The office is located at 22 Hindmarsh Road, McCracken, and will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm.
“I have always believed that Mayo constituents needed a more accessible office on the Fleurieu,” Rebekha said.
“Unfortunately the Australian Electoral Commission ruled that Mayo wasn’t large enough geographically to warrant two full-time electorate offices but we have sourced sufficient funds within our budget to fund a permanent satellite office three days a week.”
hundreds of supporters turned out over the afternoon which ran between 2 and 6pm, with dozens ready in attendance for Rebekha’s opening speech.
“I’d like to thank the Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor for providing space for my team within their facilities for at least a day a week before the by-election and, in the case of Victor Harbor, a day a week after the by-election,” said Ms Sharkie.
“But now we have our own place clearly signposted and we are looking forward to becoming a fixture on the South Coast.
“I look forward to scheduling regular visits to the South Coast office around my Federal Parliament commitments in Canberra and work across the electorate.”
Appointments with staff at the South Coast can be booked on scheduled opening days between 9am and 4.30pm by calling (08) 8398 5566.
