Flinders Private Hospital has welcomed a new consulting group, who will help treat SA patients suffering with colorectal conditions.

The Colorectal Specialist Group, a dedicated group of colorectal and general surgeons, will begin consulting this week and offer treatments utilising the hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities.

Treatments include minimally invasive and robotic surgery using the hospital’s newest technology, the Medrobotics Flex ® Robotic System.

Dr Dayan De Fontgalland and Dr Eu Nice Neo will begin consultations this week and offer patients a comprehensive range of outpatient, day-stay and inpatient services.

Dr Luigi Sposato will also consult in the suite, which is located on the ground floor, left of main reception as you enter the hospital.

Together with Flinders Private Hospital, the group will also open a Rapid Access PR Bleeding Clinic.

The clinic will offer a streamlined service for patients requiring diagnostic investigations associated with PR bleeding.

The passage of blood per rectum (rectal bleeding) is a very common symptom. Patients often attribute the symptom to haemorrhoids, which are a common cause.

However, there are other issues that can cause rectal bleeding and it is important to know what these are and when and how this symptom should be investigated further.

Rectal bleeding always warrants further assessment and medical advice.

It is essential that appropriate referrals are sought to the right specialist team and with the correct degree of urgency.

The fast track referral system for referring patients with suspected bowel cancer is designed to shorten the time to diagnosis in treatment for patients with lower gastrointestinal malignancy.

The Rapid Access PR Bleeding Clinic will offer diagnostic:

Flexible sigmoidoscopy – this is the investigation of choice for patients where there is concern about pathology other than haemorrhoids, or those who have persistent bleeding following treatment for haemorrhoids.

Colonoscopy – this is the definitive investigation where there is a high suspicion of malignancy, or a family history. It allows tissue biopsy and removal. Therefore, virtual colonoscopy has been approved as an effective alternative.

The Colorectal Specialist Group is located within Flinders Private Hospital at 1 Flinders Drive, Bedford Park.
