SPEAK UP: Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie is holding a second round of community forums. She has been fighting for issues which came up during the first round in 2017.

Residents have the chance to share their thoughts and ideas for the electorate of Mayo with their local member during a series of community forums throughout March.

Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie is embarking on her second round of consultation forums since she took up the position in 2016.

Some of the 21 forums will be in towns which have not had the chance to have their say yet after the redistribution last year.

Ms Sharkie did a series of 16 forums in 2017 which more than 1500 people attended, and she said she had been able to make improvements in the electorate through feedback she received.

She said some of the issues she has been able to make progress on through these forums include finance reforms for mum and dad farmers, recovery of unpaid superannuation, accurate labelling of free-range eggs, staffing ratios in aged care facilities, longevity of battery storage in mobile phone towers, road funding, transport, and mental health and drug rehabilitation services.

"Thanks to the input from our community, I have concentrated on making Mayo a healthier, safer and more connected place to live," she said.

Ms Sharkie said with Mayo becoming a bigger seat due to the Australian Electoral Commission's electoral redistribution, it was important to get more feedback.

"We need a new round of community forums to include the input of more than 14,000 new electors and to encourage all residents to contribute to an action plan going into a new election cycle," she said.

"I look forward to connecting with these communities and encouraging all the people of Mayo to contribute to an action plan for our region."
