One hundred years ago a small group of pioneering women came together in Buffalo, New York with a vision to help all women realise greater equality while using their individual and collective expertise in service to their community

Their vision became Zonta International, an organisation that has grown to more than 29,000 members in 63 countries, working together to make gender equality a reality for women worldwide.

After celebrating their own milestone of 40 years last year, Zonta Club of Fleurieu Peninsula is celebrating 100 years of Zonta International and International Women’s Day with a free Women’s Expo on March 3.

“Zonta International envisions a world in which women's rights are recognised as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential,” said Di Smith.

The expo will celebrate and promote the achievements and activities of women of the Fleurieu while featuring live entertainment, make-up demonstrations, floral art demonstrations, a cooking demonstration by Jessica Liebig, card making and children’s face painting.

Stalls will be manned by local clubs offering information on their activities and there will be a sausage sizzle, Barista Van and Fudge Fairy available for purchase on the day.

International Women's Day is celebrated on the 8th of March each year and is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
