The Green Man Inn Ashbourne was the venue for the 2019 Cittaslow Autumn Seasonal Dinner on March 7. The restaurant is under new management and has been completely refurbished and was a lovely choice for a dinner during daylight saving time.
Seasonal Dinners are organised by Cittaslow Goolwa to celebrate each season by dining at local restaurants and cafes as part of the organisation’s philosophy of supporting local eateries and food and wine producers.
The menu on the night was well received and all serves were generous. Entrees consisted of a choice of Tempura Shitaki mushrooms, salt and pepper squid, and pomegranate lamb salad. In keeping with the Asian flavours, the mushrooms were accompanied by black and white fungus, soy beans and a ginger caramel sauce. Mains were slow cooked pork belly (which was rated a favourite by many), chicken breast with potato dauphinoise, and chickpea salad. Desserts were a finishing touch with a choice of old favourite crème brulee and a tasty passionfruit curd tart with berry compote to finish.
The restaurant staff were friendly and efficient as they unobtrusively dealt with the crowd of 30 plus Cittaslow members and their guests. The Green Man Inn has a large car park, outdoor seating area and plenty of tables and chairs on the front verandah. This layout really suited the mild night and provided plenty of opportunity for those wishing to mingle.
