An air of familiarity brings Willunga, Goolwa, Encounter Bay and Noarlunga to the Great Southern A Grade finals after Round 14 brought the minor round season to a close.
Only one of those sides go into the first week of finals without a win, with Goolwa prevailing over Encounter Bay on the turf by defending 119. The key players in both sides showed their class of this match, as Cameron Lintern scored 52 out of the Bays' response of just 94 runs, while Jayden Crees' 3/18 saw him end the home and away season on 41 wickets.
Noarlunga and Willunga managed comfortable tune ups in their respective matches. The Shoes passing the Mount Compass target of 112 with the loss of only 3 wickets and Willunga, despite being tested against a below-strength Port Elliot in batting first for 5/158, were able to bowl the Bloods out for just 73.
The finals see Willunga take on Goolwa at Port Elliot, and Noarlunga playing Encounter Bay at Goolwa.
With the minor rounds over, The 12th Man has cast an eye over the other grades.
The B1 Grade sees Myponga take on McLaren Districts at Victor Harbor and Seaford Rise play Encounter Bay at McLaren Vale. The top three teams were separated only by percentage, with the top two match a replay of Round 14 that saw Myponga take out the minor premiership. Well done to the Bays who edged out Aldinga with a 32 run win in the last round of the season.
In the B2's, a win to Port Elliot guaranteed a top two finish and a match against Aldinga at Old Noarlunga. Aldinga in turn are coming off the bye, but a dominant season saw them finish two games clear. The elimination semi sees Yankalilla away to Rapid Bay. Again, this hinged on the last round results, with Rapid Bay's 9 wicket win over Willunga the percentage boost needed to keep Goolwa out of the finals.
Finally in the seniors, the One Day Competition finals will be contested by Port Elliot and Myponga who play at Aldinga, with the loser to play the winner of Noarlunga and Goolwa, who are playing at McLaren Flat. Myponga defeated Port Elliot recently and bridged the gap somewhat that the Bloods had from the rest. Goolwa managed to hold on for fourth despite a last round loss and will need to challenge a Noarlunga side that finished well clear of them and also had a 10-wicket win in their last game.
The Senior Colts games are Port Elliot v Aldinga at Goolwa and Encounter Bay v Seaford Rise at Port Elliot and in the Junior Colts, Mount Compass play Port Elliot at Victor Harbor, and Noarlunga Blue play Encounter Bay at McLaren Vale.
Good luck to everyone, the 12th Man wishes you well. Finals is a great time of year, so please get out and support your club and don't forget to support the clubs who are hosting - you can get a lot for giving just a little bit!
