There is so much said about community standards when addressing activity. There is too little of it, but this is definitely not the situation on the south coast.
Take last weekend as an example. On Saturday there was the inaugural Fleurieu Gift at Victor Harbor oval with 160 of the state's best athletes racing and highlighting the field of athletics.
This event is going to become an annual one and thanks go to the City of Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Milk Company for attracting and have a vision to bring this to Victor Harbor.
The impact this will have on the community of the south coast is far reaching, especially on the youngsters who are involved in South Coast Little Athletics.
There was nothing better than on Saturday evening seeing runners from the South Australian Athletic League pushing themselves to the limit.
The League has built a great relationship with council with the inaugural event being the foundation to many more to come.
Executive Officer of the South Australian Athletic League Leon Burckhardt said there is a great future for this event and plans for it to rival other great athletic meets.
"The Fleurieu Milk Gift has huge growth potential. The location in the fantastic holiday town of Victor Harbor is a huge attraction for athletes and spectators alike. We would like to see the event grow to rival the Bay Sheffield and Stawell Gift. By locking in a date early for next year we will be in a stronger position to be able to attract more athletes from both South Australia and interstate," he said.
Throw in the 25th Victor Triathlon on Sunday and it was a weekend for the active and a win for the economy of the south coast, as accommodation places and food outlets benefited.
To add to this mayhem of diverse sporting activity was the success of the national archery championships hosted by the Victor Harbor Archery Club. Sport is a boom for tourism and these events showcase Victor Harbor and the south coast.
City of Victor Harbor mayor Moira Jenkins said Victor Harbor was a vibrant community.
"We are a dynamic destination which hosts a myriad of events, which brings economic benefits to the whole Fleurieu, not just Victor Harbor," she said.
The south coast is a destination place to be active, not just to retire.
