Annie Basham talks ancestral history at VIEW Club

The monthly VIEW Club lunch meeting was on Friday March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day.

Guest speaker Annie Basham gave an emotional talk on Convicts to Settlers 1811 - 1827.

Annie's ancestor was sent to Van Damien's Island (Tasmania) for stealing a loaf of bread and along with his wife and children suffered great hardship. Eventually the next generation settled in South Australia ending up farming at Middleton with Basham Beach named after the early settler.

Five VIEW club members travelled to Victor Harbor to attend the IWD Breakfast and Fleurieu Women's Community Awards which was hosted by Victor Harbor VIEW in association with David Basham. MP, Member for Finniss.

VIEW Club will have several fundraising events in May and June including a Pre-loved Clothes Sale (over two days) and a Bunnings BBQ on Sunday, June 2.

The next meeting will be on Friday, April 12 when Jill Trewaatha of Doo Bee Honey will be guest speaker.

Women of all ages are welcome to join us at The Alma Hotel on the second Friday of the month, 10.30 for 11.00 start.
