Term 1 had swimming as the main focus with the district carnival held and from that selected was the district team to compete in the State Country Swimming Carnival held in late March.
Again it was a great day of competitive swimming with 10 of our 11 schools participating and three records broken.
Vienna Johnson from Eastern Fleurieu School broke the 10 year girls 50m Breaststroke record and Eliza Duval, also form Eastern Fleurieu, broke her older sister's 50m 11-year girls 50m breaststroke.
The other record went to Mitchell Schuette from Victor Harbor, who broke the 13 boys 50m butterfly.
It was a close contest all day for the shields with Eastern Fleurieu just sneaking ahead of Victor Harbor for the overall Shield.
Tyndale had an even narrower victory in the Handicap Shield, with Victor Harbor again the runner up.
On Friday, March 28, the region's top swimmers from the district carnival headed to Marion for the State Country Swimming Carnival after increased training opportunities run by coach Karin.
Many swimmers swam Personal Bests and quite a few made finals and several won medals.
Congratulations to Eliza Duval from Eastern Fleurieu who had a great swim in the final to win a gold medal in the 11-year girls 50m breaststroke.
Also a great swim by Vienna Johnson saw her win bronze in the 10 year girls breaststroke final.
Another huge highlight was the gold medal swim by 12-year-old girls freestyle relay team of Deja Rochford, Millie Shute, Evie French and Ella Johnson.
Also a special mention to Chloe Coleman from Victor Harbor, who had very busy program and swam her heart out in the under 13 girls, to qualify for the finals in all the events she competed in. What an achievement.
Again another big thank you to the Southern Fleurieu parents, many of whom took time off work to transport and support their children on the day and were great support for all the swimmers on the day.
Also a big thank you Karin Reddecliffe who gave up her time to train, coach and supported the swimmers at the training and on the day. Overall Southern Fleurieu District were 10th of the 18 country districts.
