Saskia Gerhardy, has been announced as Labor's candidate for Mayo in the upcoming federal election and has been busy criss-crossing the electorate rallying support.
Mayo born and raised, Gerhardy grew up and went to school in Willunga before attending Flinders University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Biodiversity in Conservation.
She then continued with post graduate studies, obtaining her honours in Environment and Evolution from the University of Adelaide.
Gerhardy is a strong advocate for youth and environmental issues and is described as being "passionate about protecting the environment for future generations."
Combining her passions for the environment and belief in the importance of education, Gerhardy has worked as an environmental educator at primary schools, focusing on the fundamentals of the natural environment and helping students bring about an understanding of ways they can contribute to sustainability.
Through her keen interests in youth and the environment, Gerhardy has placed a strong focus on working alongside the regions youth, having been appointed as the coordinator of the Willunga Trees for Life group, as well as recently becoming the inaugural Young Landcare Ambassador, in a role which will see her promote engagement with young people and their environmental projects.
As well as the environment and education, Gerhardy has placed a strong focus on health as part of her campaign and is pushing for greater access to quality health care across the Mayo electorate.
