The May meeting of the Southern Vales View Club saw 28 members and three guests attend an enjoyable talk and demonstration by local Alpaca farmer, Jan Bentley.

Jan started her business with her husband in 1996 when Alpacas were expensive and they paid $30,000 for two female alpacas.

The animals now sell for around $500 each, quite a considerable drop in price

These days they only have 13 animals left and Jill concentrates on spinning, knitting, weaving and crocheting the fibre.

The group was extra lucky on this day as Jan brought with her several beautiful sample pieces which were handed around to show how soft and versatile the wool can be. Jan also spent time demonstrating spinning techniques as well.

She attends the Meadows monthly Market and their three day Easter Fair where she brings young alpacas for display.

Our next meeting is Friday, June 14 when guest speaker will be Brian Lyttle from Orchid Genera to speak about Phalaenopsis orchids. Brian will have plants for sale.

The next fund raiser is a Bunnings BBQ at Seaford on Sunday, June 2. There is a Gala event planned for July and in September the bi-annual Convention is bring held on the Sunshine Coast.
